Kate Perkins Takes on SurFebruary to Raise Funds for Cancer Research

This February, Kate Perkins, founder of Cancer Rehabilitation & Lymphatic Solutions (CRLS), is making every wave count as she takes part in SurFebruary – an annual challenge to hit the water daily while raising vital funds for cancer research at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.

As a Cancer Rehabilitation OT and Lymphoedema Therapist, Kate has dedicated over a decade to helping cancer survivors regain their strength, confidence, and quality of life. She understands firsthand the importance of movement in cancer recovery, which is why she’s passionate about using sport and exercise to support this cause.

“The Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Foundation does amazing work for so many people who’ve been diagnosed and treated for cancer,” says Kate. “I see the impact on a daily basis when their patients come to our clinic, and I want to do my part to support their research and patient care.”

Why Movement is Essential for Cancer Recovery

Exercise is a key component of cancer rehabilitation, improving bone health, cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, and lymphatic function. It also plays a crucial role in reducing treatment-related fatigue, managing pain, and lowering the risk of lymphoedema. At CRLS, we see every day how targeted movement and therapy help patients restore independence and reclaim their quality of life after cancer treatment.

How We Support Cancer Survivors

At Cancer Rehabilitation & Lymphatic Solutions, we provide evidence-based, hands-on treatment and advanced therapies to help patients recover faster and live well beyond their diagnosis. Our services include:

  • OncoLaser™ Therapy with MLS® Laser – Reducing pain, inflammation, and scar tissue.
  • SOZO Bioimpedance Spectroscopy – Early detection of lymphoedema before visible swelling appears.
  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage & Compression Therapy – Supporting fluid movement and reducing swelling.
  • Tailored Exercise Programs – Helping patients regain mobility, flexibility, and strength.
  • Patient Education & Support – Empowering individuals with knowledge to take control of their recovery.

Kate’s Passion for Movement & the Community

A former competitive cyclist, triathlete, and passionate surfer, Kate has always embraced an active lifestyle. Whether it’s on the bike, in the ocean, or guiding patients through rehabilitation, movement has always been an important part of Kate’s life. SurFebruary allows her to combine her love for the water with her commitment to improving cancer care – all while giving back to the community she loves.
