How Advanced Technology is Changing Cancer Rehabilitation

When it comes to cancer recovery, there’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution. Every person is different, and so is their experience with treatment and recovery. At Cancer Rehabilitation & Lymphatic Solutions, a leading-edge cancer rehabilitation clinic on the Central Coast, we combine evidence-based advanced technology with compassionate, personalised care to support better outcomes for people living with and beyond cancer.

Technology is transforming cancer rehabilitation outcomes

Over the past decade, advances in technology have dramatically improved the way we support people through cancer rehab. From precise diagnostic tools to smart therapeutic devices, research-backed innovations are allowing us to detect, treat, and monitor complex side effects earlier and more effectively than ever before.

Take lymphoedema, for example, a chronic condition that affects around 1 in 5 people who undergo treatment for breast, gynaecological or head and neck cancer. Using the SOZO bioimpedance device in our Erina clinic, we’re able to detect lymphoedema before symptoms are visible. This guides early, proactive treatment to reduce swelling, preserve function, and improve long-term outcomes.

We also offer the OncoLaser ™ Treatment Approach delivered by MLS Laser Therapy, a non-invasive, clinically proven technology used to treat common side effects from surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, such as:

• Radiation-induced fibrosis
• Surgical scarring
• Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN)
• Pain and inflammation

Kate Perkins is the pioneering developer of the OncoLaser™ Treatment Approach here on the Central Coast. Cancer Rehabilitation & Lymphatic Solutions was the first clinic on the Central Coast to offer this world-leading treatment, and we remain a leader in its application for oncology rehab.

And the latest technology we’ve invested in to support the Central Coast is full-body red light therapy via the Prism Light Pod. This world-leading system delivers targeted red and near-infrared wavelengths to reduce inflammation, support energy production, and promote cellular healing. It’s particularly helpful for cancer survivors dealing with fatigue, joint pain, sleep disruption, or skin changes. As the first clinic to introduce the Prism Light Pod to the Central Coast (are you sensing a theme here?), we’re proud to offer patients access to a simple, science-backed treatment that can complement their recovery – safely, gently, and effectively.

Innovation with integrity

While technology can be powerful, we’re also very selective with what we offer our patients – we’re not interested in trends or gimmicks. If the evidence doesn’t stack up, we don’t offer it. Every device, treatment, or program introduced to our Erina clinic has been thoroughly researched and tested. We only invest in technology we truly believe will help our patients feel better, recover faster, and live well.

Technology has opened up incredible opportunities in cancer rehabilitation – but we never lose sight of the person in front of us,” says Kate. “There’s still no substitute for a trusted relationship, a caring touch, and a treatment plan that’s tailored to each individual.”

Kate Perkins is recognised as one of Australia’s leading cancer rehabilitation clinicians, known for her integrity and evidence-led approach. She’s regularly invited to present at national and international conferences and co-developed the OncoLaser protocol, now used by cancer rehab practitioners across Australia.

Whole-person care always comes first

Patients at our Central Coast clinic benefit from a comprehensive, whole-person approach to cancer rehab. Alongside our advanced technology, we offer hands-on therapy and practical support, including:

• Manual lymphatic drainage massage
• Individualised exercise and strength programs
• Compression garment fitting and education
• Support for fatigue, mobility, neuropathy and pain
• Emotional and psychosocial care

We don’t just treat symptoms, we support the whole person. This balanced approach is what sets us apart. Our team understands the complexity of cancer recovery and provides care that supports both physical healing and emotional wellbeing.

As research continues and new advanced technology emerges, the future of cancer rehabilitation is bright. Our team are committed to staying at the forefront of what’s possible, continuing to invest in evidence-based treatments that make a genuine difference, without ever losing the heart of what matters: providing quality care, with empathy and expertise, every step of the way.
