Preferred Therapy Partners for Specialist Liposuction Surgery
We are proud to be the preferred therapists for a Specialist Plastic Surgeon, Dr Naveen Somia, working closely as part of a multidisciplinary team to support patients before and after specialist liposuction surgery.
Our role is to ensure every patient receives consistent, evidence-based care that aligns precisely with the surgeon’s protocols, helping to optimise surgical outcomes, recovery, and long-term results.
As trusted therapy partners, we follow Dr Somia’s pre-operative and post-operative protocols exactly as prescribed. This close collaboration ensures continuity of care, clear communication, and a seamless experience for patients throughout their surgical journey. We understand the surgical techniques used, the expected healing timelines, and the importance of tailored therapy at each stage of recovery.
Pre-Operative Therapy Support
Before surgery, therapy focuses on preparing the tissues and supporting the lymphatic system to optimise surgical readiness. This may include:
- Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) massage
- Compression pump referrals and education
- Compression garment prescription
- Skin and tissue preparation
- Education on what to expect before and after surgery
This preparation helps reduce swelling, supports circulation, and allows patients to approach surgery feeling informed and confident.

Post-Operative Care Following Surgical Protocols
After surgery, we strictly follow the surgeon’s post-operative care plan to support safe and effective recovery. Post-operative therapy may include:
- Post-surgical lymphatic drainage massage
- Swelling and bruising management
- Compression therapy support
- Scar and tissue care as healing progresses
- Gradual return to movement and function
All treatments are delivered at the appropriate stage of healing and adjusted according to the surgeon’s instructions and the patient’s individual progress.
Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT)
As part of post-operative care, we may incorporate Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT) in line with the surgeon’s protocols to help accelerate the healing process. PBMt is an evidence-based, non-invasive light therapy that uses infrared to near-infrared light to support cellular repair and recovery. PBMt works by improving cellular energy (ATP), reducing inflammation, increasing microcirculation, and supporting lymphatic function. These same mechanisms make it helpful both before and after lipoedema surgery for optimal surgical recovery outcomes.
Pre-Operative Benefits
- Reduces Inflammation in Lipoedema Tissue
PBMT may help reduce inflammatory activity within affected tissues, supporting improved comfort, reduced tenderness, and healthier tissue quality prior to surgery.
- Improves Lymphatic Function Prior to Surgery
A healthier lymphatic system going into surgery optimises lymph flow pre-op may support better post-op drainage and faster recovery.
- Reduces Pre-Surgical Pain and Tenderness
Many lipoedema patients are highly sensitive to touch. PBMt can reduce nerve hypersensitivity, decrease daily pain and improve tolerance to compression and manual therapies used pre-operatively. A more comfortable limb pre-op can make recovery easier.
- Supports Microcirculation for Better Healing Capacity
Surgery is a controlled trauma. Better blood flow in advance means better oxygen and nutrient delivery, more resilient tissues, and reduced risk of postoperative complications such as prolonged bruising
Post-Operative Benefits
For lipoedema, PBMT is especially helpful because of how the tissue responds.
- Reduces Post-Surgical Swelling & Bruising
PBMT enhances lymphatic flow to move postoperative fluid, reduce oedema, and speed resolution of bruising. This is one of the strongest and fastest benefits most patients notice.
- Accelerates Healing
PBMT stimulates mitochondrial repair and collagen synthesis, which speeds wound and tissue healing, supports improved scar quality, and reduces risk of delayed healing, especially in areas with prior fibrosis.
- Reduces Pain After Surgery
This may reduce the need for strong post-op pain medication.
- Helps Prevent or Reduce Fibrosis and Hard Nodules
PBMT supports healthy tissue remodelling by reducing excessive scar tissue formation, softening firm areas, and promoting smoother, more even healing in treated areas.
- Improves Range of Motion and Reduces Tissue Tightness
After liposuction, tissues can feel tight or stiff for weeks. PBMT relaxes fascia, reduces stiffness, and supports more comfortable mobility and faster return to normal activities
- Enhances Surgical Outcomes
By reducing inflammation, fibrosis, and swelling, PBMT may help create smoother contours, reduce asymmetry, and enhance overall cosmetic and functional results
